JJ Cale died Friday, July 26 of a heart attack at Scripps Hospital in La Jolla, California.  He was 74.

Cale was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and was raised in Tulsa.  That's where he honed his style of blues, country, jazz, and rock.  That style became known as the "Tulsa Sound."

Many of Cale's songs have been covered over the years.  He's probably best known for writing Cocaine and After Midnight, which became hits for Eric Clapton.  He also wrote Call Me The Breeze, which became a hit for Lynyrd Skynyrd.
